When was the last time your fall protection systems were inspected?

The purpose of the working at height regulations, (WAHR) 2005 purpose is to prevent death and injury caused by a fall from height.

If you are an employer or you control work at height, the Regulations apply to you.

Employers have a legal duty to ensure that work is properly planned, supervised and carried out by competent people. This includes using the right type of equipment for working at height. The regulations states that employers must provide the most suitable equipment for the works required and that this is regularly inspected/tested to remain compliant.

Work equipment needs to be assembled or installed in line with manufacturer’s instructions and in keeping with industry guidelines. Equipment used for work at height can often be exposed to many elements which may cause it to deteriorate and potentially life threatening consequences.

The Health and Safety Executive stipulate that all fall protection equipment is regularly tested and inspected. This should be carried out by a competent person who has the sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to perform the task. Records are required to be kept following each test/inspection and the equipment suitably tagged.
