Snowdonia National Park - Snowdon Summit

Eurosafe Solutions reached dizzy heights with a contract to complete the test and inspection of what is probably the geographically highest fall protection system in the UK.

The Building

The company is working on Snowdonia National Park to test its wire access systems and eyebolts on the Summit building at Hafod Eryri – Mt Snowdon, which is located at 3,560ft (1,085 metres),  above sea level – the highest point in the British Isles outside Scotland! The building, which was officially opened in June 2009, attracts half a million visitors per year and includes a visitor centre and café. Eurosafe won the contract after having initially designed and installed its fall protection systems.

The Inspection

Eurosafe were really pleased to be working with Snowdonia National Park on the testing and inspection contract. As many of the team are keen climbers, this job is one that all of the team would want to do! By working with clients such as the National Park Authority, Eurosafe aim to take away the headache of having to ensure that their systems are properly maintained, giving them peace of mind and minimising risks to staff and to a business.

We are pleased to be working with Eurosafe on the ongoing testing and inspection of the systems, which is part of our commitment to the safety of this building. This is a uniquely hazardous environment and planned scheduled maintenance is essential to minimise the risks to our staff and outside workers. We chose the wire access systems from Eurosafe when the building was designed as they had minimal visual impact on the building and the environment, yet they were very robust and met all our safety access requirements. We have been delighted with the way the building looks and how the access systems have performed in these conditions.

Peter Trumper, Head of Property Services at the Snowdonia National Park Authority

Eurosafe specialises in the testing and inspection of fall protection systems, which includes providing risk assessments, training services for work at heights and providing long term inspection and maintenance programmes.

The company carries out its testing and inspection services to meet BS EN 795:1997 and goes beyond the ‘sample’ testing approach by physically testing every system to apply a specified load for a number of minutes to each end component for every system. This is part of providing total confidence to customers and a greater degree of safety for those working at heights. Following the inspection, Eurosafe produces a detailed report as to its inspector’s findings and provides up to date system certification.
