Monorail Inspection

Monorail Test & Inspection

Here at Eurosafe, we offer building managers/owners a full test & inspection solution for the monorail system. It can be individually tailored to the building to minimise any downtime and maximise the productivity of any permanent access equipment.

Our test & inspection engineers are highly trained and work in accordance with LOLER, PUWER, EN 1808 and BS 6037  Part 1 & Part 2 to ensure that the monorails are safe for use.

We provide an inspection, examination, maintenance and testing service for monorails installed for both permanently suspended access to BS 6037-1 and for Industrial Roped Access (Abseil) to BS 8610:2017.

Following the lead of BS 6037, we classify the inspection and testing of monorails to BS 6037- Part 1 -2003 regulation. To complete this there are 4 levels of inspection that should be carried out:

  • Pre-use checks should be carried out by the user before commencing work each day

  • Inspection and maintenance is generally carried out at three-monthly intervals, with more extensive inspections carried out at six and 12-monthly intervals

  • Load testing carried out annually

  • Thorough examinations are generally carried out at six-monthly intervals.

Frequency of Inspection

It is the duty holder's responsibility that the four levels of inspection/examination, maintenance and testing are carried out and that reports are issued and retained. We are able to carry out this service on behalf of the duty holder.

The inspection & testing criteria which we follow laid out under BS 6037-1 require four inspection/examination, maintenance and testing which should be carried out annually:

Month 1 - Annual load test, thorough inspection and maintenance

Month 3 - Quarterly inspection

Month 6 - Bi-annual thorough examination

Month 9 - Quarterly inspection

Where a Monorail System is installed in accordance with BS 8610:2017 to provide a suspension point for Industrial Roped Access/abseil a bi-annual inspection is required under LOLER as recommended under BS 7985:2013 Code of Practice for the use of Rope Access methods for Industrial Purposes.

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) requires lifting equipment to be “thoroughly examined” by a competent person at intervals not exceeding 6 months.
