Roof Safety Wire Inspection

Roof Safety Wire Test & Inspection

Roof safety wires are vital whenever there is a requirement for people to be working at height. The purpose of a roof safety wire is to protect a worker from a fall or limit the severity should a fall occur.

There are many reasons why people need to access the roof of a building; sometimes for tasks that are as little as cleaning, servicing, or making minor repairs to the roof. A safety wire will allow the user to stay protected whilst connected and reduce the risks of injury from a fall.

The Working at Height Regulations (WAHR) 2005 states ‘Every employer shall ensure that, where the safety of work equipment depends on how it is installed or assembled, it is not used after installation or assembly in any position unless it has been inspected in that position.’

At Eurosafe, we are competent to undertake testing and inspection of all the leading manufacturers of roof safety wire fall protection systems. This allows us to offer a complete fall protection inspection and testing service to our customers.

All testing, inspection, and certification of fall protection systems should be carried out in accordance with current British Standards: BS EN 795, BS EN 7883, and BS EN353 if a vertical system.

Frequency of Inspection

Any fall arrest system used for Work at Height must be inspected for integrity and compliance at least once every 12 months in accordance with the WAHR (Work at Height Regulations). Due to the very nature of where they are based, Weather conditions can have a impact on the integrity of the roof safety wire system. Eurosafe offer a complete testing service to provide peace of mind that your safety systems are compliant and fit for purpose.

It is stated in the WAHR; ‘Where work is carried out at height, every employer shall take suitable and sufficient measures to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, any person falling a distance liable to cause personal injury’ which is why it is so important that all testing, inspection, and certification of fall protection systems are carried out in accordance with current British Standards; BS EN 795, BS EN 7883 and BS EN353 if a vertical system.

The updated European Standard EN 795 2012 requires that all cable-based fall protection systems be designed, manufactured and tested to allow for foreseeable misuse. Thus, the roof safety wire must be capable of sustaining a fall arrest load, regardless of whether they are designed in a fall restraint position or not.
