We provide an inspection, examination, maintenenace and testing service for monorails installed for both permanently suspended access to BS 6037-1 and for Industrial Roped Access (Abseil) to BS 8610:2017.

We offer a Compliance based inspection & testing service as part of a Periodic Inspection regime / PPM for monorail systems. The inspection approach we take is determined by the use of the monorail.

Where a Monorail system provides the suspension point for permanently installed suspended access equipment comprising a platform (basket or cradle) suspended by steel wire ropes.

The inspection & testing criteria which we follow laid out under BS 6037-1 requires four inspection/examination, maintenance and testing which should be carried out annually:

Month 1. Annual load test, thorough inspection and maintenance

Month 3. Quarterly inspection

Month 6. Bi-annual thorough examination

Month 9. Quarterly inspection

It is the duty holders responsibility that the four levels of inspection/examination, maintenance and testing are carried out and that reports are issued and retained. We are able to carry out this service on behalf of the duty holder.

Where a Monorail system is installed in accordance with BS 8610:2017 to provide a suspension point for Industrial Roped Access / abseil a bi-annual inspection is required under LOLER as recommended under BS 7985:2013 Code of Practice for the use of Rope Access methods for Industrial Purposes.

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) requires lifting equipment to be “thoroughly examined” by a competent person … at intervals not exceeding 6 months.

LOLER sets out that a thorough examination should be carried out as a minimum every 6 months where the lifting equipment and any associated accessories are used to lift people. What is covered by a Thourough examination will be determined by the examiner but will include an examination of all matters likely to affect the safety of the lifing equipment.
